ArcGIS: A Platform for Integrating and Sharing GIS Contents.

Traditionally, GIS has been a technology used by analysts to perform spatial

analysis and generate custom map products that meet the specific needs of

their organizations.

Nowadays, while GIS content in Vietnam has been strongly developed,

it is in the phase of sharing and integrating among internal units as well

as using external content from other organizations. The modern

governors’ concern is a powerful platform that allows delivering

GIS capabilities that all members of an organization, as well

as different organizations can easily access and use geographic information

within a collaborative environment but still highly maintain the data security.

Analysts or geographical content organizations still provide technical GIS

expertise in the traditional sense, but other non-GIS organizations or other

staffs in the organization with little or no GIS knowledge can also benefit from

and contribute to the organization's platform. The final goal is to extend the

reach of GIS to everyone and enable better decision making.
